School Counseling Mission Statement:
Kinzie Elementary School’s Counseling mission is to implement developmentally appropriate, evidence-based, and data-driven programs. Academic, Career, & Social/Emotional realms will be addressed in a respectful learning environment accomplished through culturally relevant preventative, self-exploratory, and intervention activities. Students will be supported individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings to foster & empower all students to become critical thinkers, lifelong learners, & global citizens of the future. Equity, access, and success for each individual student is the Kinzie mission.

8th Grade News: * GoCps Application period is October 12th through December 11th Website: www.go.cps.edu Phone: 773-553-2060 A letter with Activation Codes was sent home in the mail. Please follow directions and research schools that your child is eligible for. Many tools are available on this website to do so. Even if your student is considering Kennedy, they should choose Kennedy. If parochial schools are being considered, it is still recommended that students activate and do their research, as they will be required to do so for post-secondary options. Good habits to begin early. If a parent needs assistance, please feel free to contact the Counselor. An 8th Grade Google Classroom has been created specifically for your students.

Students in Grades 6 thru 8 will embark on working on their ILPs(Individual Learning Plans) and the Naviance Curriculum addressing Academic, Career, SEL domains. Through Naviance, students create academic goals, begin career exploration activities, and high school planning. Naviance is a software tool that enables students in grades 6 through 12 to conduct comprehensive college and career planning. It is also a powerful data collection and analysis tool for school staff and administrators.
Students in Grades PK thru 5 will be receiving Second Step in their classrooms. It is a curriculum developed for Character Education.
A Foundation for Life
The elementary years bring exciting new challenges and opportunities. It’s the ideal time to nurture social-emotional competence and develop foundational learning skills. Evidence-based Second Step SEL for K–5 includes everything schools need to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into their classrooms and schoolwide. Using the Second Step curriculum has been shown to decrease problem behaviors, and it’s designed to promote school success, self-regulation, and a sense of safety and support.
We will be offering topics throughout the school year geared for our Wonderful Kinzie Parents and Families English & Spanish We are pleased to offer: Raising Resilient Children (ages 0-12) (English/Spanish different days)
