Community Service
As a value of the IB community, service with and to others is an important way to positively engage in the local and global community. In participating in service, students become more responsible and in turn, develop the attributes described in the Learner Profile to be successful in our global society. The aim of service is also to help students develop their personal understanding, their emerging sense of self and their developmentally appropriate responsibility in their community.
Service in Year 1 & 2:
Students are required to complete 2 hours per quarter. At the end of each quarter, students are required to submit a service log that has been signed by an adult in charge of the service. Additionally, students need to reflect on their experiences and document their reflections on the service log.
Service should be meaningful for the students. Service can include, but not limited to: volunteering at an event, participate in charity event, tutor or coach children, etc.
Service IS NOT; babysitting a sibling/cousin/neighbor, doing chores, working at a family business, etc.

Community Service Project in Year 3:
A requirement of the program is to complete a project with helping the community as the overall theme. Students can work in pairs or groups of 3. Students will be assigned a mentor that will guide them through the process. In addition to a positive outcome, it is the hope that students will be mindful of the process and will be required to document that reflection on the process throughout the entire project.
